There’s no one more excited on the job than a new employee. Starting a new job is both a wonderful and a nerve-wracking time. As an employer it is critical you start each new employee with a new parking permit for safety, security and overall peace of mind.

Some companies don’t like parking permits. They say they are too much work, that they “know” every employee on their grounds and they don’t want or need the added security parking permits could bring. But for the majority of today’s companies, parking permits are a valued necessity. You’ll find parking permits offer tremendous security and maintain order even under minor “nuisance” issues that can be easily resolved – all because you have issued every new employee a parking permit.

Issue parking permits right away. When you hire a new employee you want them to start working immediately but often there is a short orientation period. Use this time to also issue them a new parking permit. Ask that new employee to display the new parking permit from the rear view mirror inside their car or on the dashboard. Alert security that the new employee has a parking permit.

As you issue new parking permits you should take some basic information from an employee for security to have on hand. They should have what department the employee works and what their extension is. Security should also know who their supervisor is and what the extension is for that person. It is ideal if security has their license plate number and type of car.

You may wonder, “Why would security need all of this information?” But truly it makes things easier for security and also new employees. Say for example a new employee’s car has a flat tire and a security guard notices it while making their rounds. They can identify whose car it is by the parking permit and contact them directly. If that person is in a meeting, they can reach their supervisor. This makes it so much easier to solve problems that can occur which can be quite frustrating to your employees and might otherwise cause them to miss time from work taking care of them. But when your security staff has contact information available, they save your staff time and make things far more convenient for them.

Having this information also means that security will know exactly who is on the grounds at all times. If a new employee wants to make a good impression and comes into work early, security will know they are on the grounds because they have checked them in and identified them from their parking permit.

Parking permits make work easier for new employees and also for your security team. They will quickly get to know new employees and soon recognize when people are expected to be in the office or on the grounds. If someone’s car is there late – security can go check by their office to see if everything is alright. While most companies are safe and secure most of the time. New employees often feel a stronger sense of security when they see security staff contact them and check on them periodically like this. Parking permits are an ideal way of keeping track of your company’s staff.
